VEDIC ASTROLOGY
Vedic Astrology is said to be the eyes of the Vedas, or Vedanayanam (Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra 1,6). It is based on the Vedic theory of Creation and karma. The goal of human life and also of the science of Astrology, according to the Vedas, is to show the path to reach the ultimate abode of bliss -- known as Brahman. But the journey has to begin from where we are right now. Therefore, it deals with the four major pursuits of human life: Dharma (the purpose of life or the duties to be fulfilled), Artha (financial and other resources), Kama (desires for life's pleasures born of Dharma), and finally, Moksha (spiritual enlightenment - liberating the soul from the cycle of birth and death).
Vedic Astrology distinguishes between fate and destiny. Fate is that which happens as a manifestation of cosmic law. Destiny results from one's own actions, combined with those of parents, siblings, ancestors, children, and society. Vedic Astrology is not fatalistic, but assists one in exercising one's free will. It throws light on the celestial forces at work in one's life. It does not stop there; showing powerful ways to make the most of the factors working in one's life. It helps in two ways: First, it lays out the karmic "map" and secondly, it shows what one can do with this "map" to maximize positive factors and minimize the negativity. Various remedies recommended by Vedic astrology for this include: good actions, attracting special positive forces through the use of gems, mantras, and rituals.
Vedic Astrology is based on the same twelve houses as in the Western systems. Additionally, the two "shadow planets," Rahu and Ketu (North and South Nodes of the Moon) are taken into consideration while interpreting a birth chart.
Even in Vedic Astrology situations cannot be altered by astrologers. However, based on an astrologer's intuitive insight, one can alter one's response by using remedial measures to minimize the negative effects of a problem.
Vedic Astrology is an ancient scientific wisdom that is even more useful today. It helps us to acquire a deeper understanding of forces unknown to us that affect the past, present, and future of our lives. It points the way to happiness in this life and, in the process, directs us to the highest spiritual purpose of our human incarnation.
